Volunteer Members:
The Honor Squad proudly represents and accepts veterans from all branches of the military, as well as adult civilians that have never served. With a wide range of volunteers, new members are likely to fit in and find comfort in honoring our veterans.
Interested in joining the Honor Squad?
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3:
STEP 1
Please contact the Honor Squad Recruiter or Commander to schedule a time to observe services at the Dayton National Cemetery. Their contact information can be found on the flyer below.
This will allow you to determine if you are able to handle the physical requirements that include executing drills with the M1 rifle used in the rifle salute, standing, marching, and serving during various weather conditions.
STEP 2
Recruits will then complete an Honor Squad application form, as well as forms via the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Voluntary Services (CDCE).
You will be required to pass a background check (w/fingerprints) before you are issued an ID badge. You will also be required to take (and pass) a Tuberculosis
STEP 3
Once you have been cleared by the CDCE and you have been given an ID badge, you will let the Honor Squad Recruiter or Commander know which day(s) of the week you will be able to serve on.
Recruits will be issued the following: 2 shirts (short and long sleeve), 2 hats (warm and cold weather), white gloves, white scarf, white belt. Winter coats and rain jackets are available for shared use or purchase. Members must provide their own black dress pants (not jeans), black socks, black shoes (not sneakers), and black winter gloves.
